Lana Del Rey may be one of the most hypnotic pseudo gansta soul singers out there. However, Lana aka Lizzie Grant is in fact a daughter of a multi-millionaire real estate broker and a manufactured pop singer brought by Interscope records standing with the likes of Gaga and Limp Bizkit. Now the hispter fans may cringe at the thought of listening to a manufactured singer that was pushed to change her name to that of Del Rey but fuck this girl has some style regardless if it is solely her idea or not. You see her post Lizzie Grant image a mash up between 1950's glam, old school Hollywood, Bridget Bardot, 90's hip hop with an Americana throwback she is by far one of the most original conceptional singers around even with the backing from a major label. She calls her heart wrenching lyrics Hollywood Sadcore and that is exactly what it envisions. Interscope and her management team have tried very hard to protect this image of effortlessly cool with almost every female fucking hating her guts because she is just that a love to hate her kind of thing. In fact it has been citied that Del Rey recently lived in a New Jersey trailer park which may be true but her millionaire fortune still hangs in the background.
With the release of "Video Games" and Del Rey's appearance in the video on her self shot webcam frames it is evident that she has a little something. A little something that everyone would kill for, and no it isn't those lips, its a persona created which appeals to so many and frankly don't give a damn if it is a processed and carefully manufactured move from the record companies or not. Del Rey used iMovie to cut up frames from old movies, cartoons and then inserts her Lolita style webcam shots. But her voice alone is good enough for the achieved success of her first single. But the directional change of her name, history and image beg to differ whether she would sell as many records and thus stardom. I guess it is much easier to love a chick that struggled tough in a trailer park than a millionaire heiress. But she writes her own lyrics and melodies so surely taht must get her some well earned points in the authenticity if not her image at least her music. Ms Del Rey often describes herself as a gangster Nancy Sinatra and with the release of her video "Born To Die"wheres she gets sweaty with a hot tattooed boy, smokes a joint all whilst wearing a white fringed leather jacket she certainly lives up to that name. The voice, that hair and lips and those ghetto nails is instant love for me manufactured or not.
