manic monday

The tune for today is pretty self explantory...

"Manic Monday" - The Bangles is from their 1986 Different Light album written by Prince's psuedonym "Christopher" and was given to lead singer Susanna Hoffs in exchange for a naughty night time encounter. This an extremely appropriate and important song a. it is Monday and b. it has been crazy busy at work hence the manic portion but also because it is one of my first memories of my mum singing to me. The Bangles Greatest Hits record was a conveted one within my family and every single song has such a clear and defined memory of my childhood. It is also a favourite because The Bagles were one of the very few talented female bands who would not be described as stereotypical "angry chick" music. Holla to The Bangles and the ever appropriate Manic Monday.

lets have a toast for the douchebags

I know how some people feel about Mr. West but you cannot deny his amazing ability to make a chorus inclusive of pure swearing a masterpiece. He is an arrogant, egotistical lyrical genius. "Runaway" has been out for a while but recently it caught my attention for more than just another pointless rapper referring to themselves the entire song. The "runaway" video is crazy good and really makes me want to endevour to find my 15 + tutus sitting under my house and put my point shoes back on. I love the combination of classical ballet and this haunting rap the solo piano. Listen and learn folks...

mid week warmers

Curent obsessions of mine are taking hold - leopard nails being a particular favourite, strawberries and cream cupcakes, awesome coffee cups and of course some beach sunset horizon (just to show my "artsistic" side).

monday mix

This weeks playlist is reminiscent of the "British Invasion" era in the 1960's - translating to a whole lot of British bands coming over to America who sang in the genres of rock and roll, beat, pop and rock. The Beatles were responsible for spear heading this after a report ran on CBS about Beatlemania in the UK. After watching this report an American 15 year old girl wrote a letter into a DJ at WWDC radio complaining why didn't they have music like that in America. On December 17th, 1963 WWDC played "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and this marked the first Beatles song to be aired in the United States.

Can't Buy Me Love - The Beatles
It's My Life - The Animals
Time Of the Season - The Zombies
Do Wah Diddy Diddy - Manfred Man
For Your Love - The Yardbirds
Downtown - Petula Clarke
All Day and All Of Night - The Kinks
Not Fade Away - The Rolling Stones
My Generation - The Who

Now get listening!
